Today was Livvy's 5th day at the veterinarian's farm. She has been free to roam in the pasture and turnout shed, day and night, for the 3rd day. During the days, she has a new friend, one of the veterinarian's horses, in the pasture immediately adjoining hers, and they have been nuzzling each other over the fence! Livvy is so happy!
This afternoon, when we arrived for our "afternoon" visit .... Livvy was far out in her pasture. I put her halter on, and led her to the turnout shed. We brushed her and talked to her, and then we took off her halter to let her roam in the pasture. She didn't go too far, and kept her eyes on us the entire time.
Don suggested I "run around the pasture" so Livvy could watch me. My initial reaction was that he was just trying to make fun of me by seeing how silly I would really be, but he had a plan. I ran. Livvy watched. Then I walked up to Livvy's side, and I ran again. And Livvy ran too!
How beautiful she ran! I couldn't believe it. She ran right beside me. OK ... well truth be told, she eventually out ran me ... but that's another story.
I stopped. She stopped. Then I walked up to her and then began to run again, and she began to run again. This time, I got the chance to really get a good look at her trotting. Tail up, stepping out, head up ....... beautiful.
Just beautiful.
A little while later, we stood with her in the pasture, rubbing her head, brushing her gently, until we were pretty sure she would begin to snore! She was in this lovely little daze. Totally at ease and relaxed. What a sweetheart.
I think we'll keep her.
